Women's Work 2007
May 11 - 27, 2007
In May 2007, we presented Women’s Work – a celebration and festival of works by women. Nearly two dozen women presented their art - including poetry, essays, plays, documentary films and visual arts - over three weekends. We’re proud that opening night featured poetry written and read by women of Magdalene House.
The initial idea for a performing arts festival was born of painful necessity, according to Maryanna Clarke, TWTP's founding artistic director.
“Women’s Work 2007 came about because I was sidelined for ten weeks with a back injury, and couldn’t direct the play we had planned to present,” recalls Clarke. “With the theater already booked, we put out a call to women artists, offering our stage for their work. The response was amazing – we ended up presenting works by more than dozen poets, playwrights, film makers and performers. We knew right away that Women’s Work should be an annual event.”
