Women's Work Call for Submissions

Deadline extended: August 14, 2019

This is our call for submissions for Women’s Work 2019.
Each year for more than a decade now, we have presented the work of women playwrights, poets, singers, musicians, essayists, circus performers, painters, filmmakers, dancers, choreographers, photographers – and more – from across Tennessee and across the country.

The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2019 August 14, 2019 – your submission package must be received via email or postmarked by that date.

What can women artists submit? Just about anything! Whatever you have, we want to know about it:
dance
staged readings of full-length plays
staged readings of musicals
one-acts or short plays
poetry
story-telling
short and full-length films, narrative or documentary
singer/songwriters
vocalists
one woman shows
circus performers
stand-up comedy
clown performers

If your piece doesn't fall into one of these categories, no worries!  If it was created by a woman artist, we will consider it! This year our dance night is scheduled for Saturday, September 21. If you have a dance piece but can't make dance night, don't give up! We could still include your piece, as we typically schedule at least one "mix 'n' match" night of short works of many genres. We always have a Poetry Sunday, and we have space to display visual arts including mobiles, paintings and drawings, and sculpture.

What we provide:
the 200 seat Looby Theater
sound and lights, and operators to run them
cue-to-cue tech rehearsal
printed programs (4-color festival cover and b/w interior pages unique to each performance)
stage manager
front of house personnel
festival promotion and publicity through social media and email
60% of box office revenue to presenters
answers to all your questions!

Presenters' responsibilities:
promotion of her individual performance through social media and mailing lists
help promoting the festival through social media
for plays and readings: casting, acquiring a director, finding rehearsal space and rehearsing the piece before tech rehearsal. We can help you with these chores by suggesting directors and actors and sending casting notices, but these are ultimately your responsibility.
arrange your own rehearsal time and space except for tech rehearsal, which will be in the theater
